The prehistoric shelters of Laugerie Basse
Evidence of unparalleled cultural and aesthetic activity
This site has served as a reference for prehistorians around the world. The numerous archaeological remains discovered there bear witness to a cultural and aesthetic activity unparalleled in the region or even in Europe. Two shelters are open to visitors: the so-called classic shelter and the Marseilles shelter.
Built between the latter and the cave of the Grand Roc, a museum aims to introduce the visitor to movable art in a didactic way.
A series of casts and photos copiously illustrates the variety and richness of the objects that the shelters have delivered.
