The Conquil
Authentic rock shelters occupied by man since prehistoric times, then developed and fortified in the Middle Ages
From the center of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, one of the most beautiful villages in France located halfway between the Lascaux Cave and Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, cross the Vézère River to reach the Conquil site.
The visit along the Vézère allows the discovery of authentic rock shelters inhabited by humans since prehistoric times, then adapted and fortified in the Middle Ages. A true “safe” for goods and a refuge site, it is one of the few authentic places from our past that has preserved its testimonial value, both in the arrangements of shelters and defense systems, as well as in its natural and wild setting.
Discover, through a guided tour, how humans have adapted to their environment and have made this authentic place their living space. Guided or self-guided tours with audio guide.
Ongoing archaeological and historical excavations… Embark on the discovery of the mysteries of Conquil !
