The only cave in the Périgord to feature original prehistoric paintings and natural concretions
Located near Brantôme, the Cave of Villars has a double interest: geology and prehistory.
You can admire all types of concretions during the guided tour: impressive calcite flows, fine stalactites, translucent draperies, countless stalagmites. Significant improvements have been made: sound and light, non-slip paths, commentaries by HF microphone. Prehistoric paintings dating back 18,000 years lightly covered with calcite will allow you to appreciate the art of our ancestors.
The “buffalo and sorcerer” scene is one of the few human depictions in prehistoric art.
